Hawaii - 2013

Oahu, Sept. 2013 - Went to Hawaii with my mom for her 66th birthday. I took her snorkeling and we swam in the ocean with dolphins and sea turtles. Lots of fun- I got a couple of great shots of dolphins. While the rest of the tour was swimming toward another group of dolphins, I turned and saw these 3 swimming together.

The tour took us to another spot where we swam with about 6 turtles. Later in our trip, we did find a sea turtle in the ocean while we were at the beach. My mom followed it as I ran back to get the camera for a photo. By the time I got back out to the turtle, he was gone.

One of my favorite places was actually The Outriggers Canoe club that Marsha belongs to. The sunset was amazing (see below). We would meet for breakfast in the morning and happy hour in the evening. Aunt Nona used to tell my mom about The Outriggers and so it was one place she definitely wanted to go. Worth it (but only if you are a member, sorry).

Chinaman's Hat - stopped for a photo opp on our drive around the island with Marsha and Newell.

I cannot mention my favorite beach because it seemed to be less populated and well, I am hoping that it will still be more isolated in the years to come as I go back. This beach was pure heaven and I already have my first 3 days of next summer planned for this beach. Both my mom and I loved it here and don't really want to go to any other beach. Our first visit here, we spent time in the ocean and the waves were perfect for body surfing. It was so much fun!

Pulled off for some sight seeing on one of our many drives.

This is the view from Marsha's guest house. We slept with the windows open every night and the trade winds kept us nice and cool. Every morning I woke up, I could see the lush, green palm trees with Honolulu in the background!

My mom and I on her birthday! It was such a fun, great trip! Looking forward to going back next year.

Things I am Grateful for

Ok, so my last post... a bit deep so I think I should soften this up with things that I am thankful for.

My mom
I know I've expressed this before but I am so, so grateful for her!
Lynkin
I love this dog like no other. He's my forever dog. He's amazing and good and sweet. He pretty chill and cuddles. He likes to sleep on the couch but only when no one is on it. I think God must have known I'd need L in my life and he came right in time.
Family
my cousins (Ronni and Steph) and my Aunt Rosann. I know I can pick up the phone and rely on one of these 3 to be there for me in a heartbeat. I know the rest of my family is there for me too and I'm grateful for them as well.
My home
     I love my house!
My job
I can truly say I enjoy my job. There are days when I don't but overall, I'm thankful for my job and that it can provide me the comforts of my home and let L eat on a daily basis.
My health
Life
This is kind of huge because the last two years have been very hard for me. Still is... but I am thankful for waking up in the morning and the life I have.
Friendship
I have amazing friends whom I feel I've pushed away over the last two years. My friends are still there, I just need to remember to reach out. I really have true friends and I'm so thankful for them!
My dad
My mom gets it... my dad was my heart. My mom is as well but my dad is just different. I've spend time reading posts on Facebook from children who grew up without their dad, who had strained relationships with their dads because of the war, and it makes me realize after all these years how amazing my dad was. I took him for granted for so long and I regret that. At the same time, I'm more than forever grateful for my divorce that brought me closer to my dad. That sounds crazy but it's the truth. My dad did his very best and I'm so thankful that God chose him to be my dad. I love him with all my heart. I miss being able to call him and talk with him. So anyone reading this.... do not take your parents for granted because one day you'll want another conversation and you won't be able to get one.

These are things that I am thankful for. I'm also thankful that within me, I have a faith in God. Even if I may be angry, my faith is still there. If I didn't have this faith, I don't think I'd make it in this world.

Surgery

About 3 weeks ago, my mom fell. She had a hard time walking and thought she pulled a muscle. Knowing she would need a doctor's note for work, she headed to her family physician a couple days after the fall. He took an x-ray and nothing. The following week, she decided to go to her orthopedic surgeon and sure enough, he diagnosed her right away with a fractured hip. After the MRI confirmed the fracture, she was scheduled to have surgery. The doctor is putting three screws in her hip to hold everything together so she can heal. So here I am, sitting in a waiting room, waiting for my mom to come out of surgery. I know I blog a lot about my dad and not so much my mom. My mom doesn't read my blog and my dad used to read it. That's not a good reason not to post on here how incredible my mom is though.

My mom is my solid rock. We can fight, well, she drives me crazy and I drive her nuts with my 'attitudes' but no matter what, we have an unconditional love that I hope every mother and child has. My mom has always, always been there for me. When I'm sick, she's on the phone listening to me whine. Volunteering to bring me whatever it is I need. Even picking me up to bring her to her house because I can't get out of bed. When I go out of town, she watches my dog(s). Now, I know she doesn't mind watching Lynkin but Max... oh Max. She didn't like Max very much but she still watched him for me. She'll make me dinner on her birthday. She deals with my screaming and crying when I'm so, so frustrated. When I was little, she would put a cold washcloth on my head when I was sick and force me to drink hot totties (not until I was older though). She taught me to drive, she taught me everything. It's always been my mom and I. She sacrificed more than I probably will ever know, just for me. I have hurt her feelings, she has hurt mine but we still love each other, no matter what. I would do anything in this world for my mom and I know she would do anything for me too. I think that it's just too hard to express how much she means to me.

So as I sit here waiting for her surgery to be over, I just want the world to know how much I appreciate and love my mom.

Oh and no worries about the surgery. I let her doctor know that this is my only mother, my only parent still living and that he needs to make sure he's on his A-game when he goes into surgery with her. I double checked this morning that he had a good nights sleep, he said yes! When we first met this doctor, he did not have much personality but over the last 18 months since our first visit with him, he's coming around and even smiles and jokes now. I feel confident with him taking care of my mom. That's always a good thing!

I love you MOM!!! You are the most amazingly, loving, strong woman I know! It's you and me, against the world!

Call your parents, today

Today I was just thinking how nice it would be to be able to pick up the phone and call my dad, for no reason, just to say hi.

It seems like lately, I talk to my mom almost every day now. Which is a good thing.
For those of you who may take something as simple as a hello or I love you to your parents for granted, I highly advise you pick up the phone and call them to say you love them. One day you won't be able to and let me tell you... IT SUCKS!!!!

Happy Birthday to my MOM

My mom is aMaZing!

She's always there when I need her

her love truly is unconditional

Today, she came to my house, for her birthday, because I was having a hard day, hard weekend. She wanted to help take my mind off my dad, and off of 'him'. She wanted to help stop my heart from hurting, if only for a little bit. And she did. She made me laugh and she let me cry.

I wish my mother enough, always and forever.

Happy Birthday Mom!
